Today I just received message from Mam Bondad, the head of my former primary and high school alma-mater, St. Mary's Academy. It was a heart warming feeling that through the years people still remember the creative works that I have contributed to the school. I was really grateful for them for nurturing the raw talent I had when I was young. I remember them being very supportive of me. I use to go to art competition from various school in our region and there our teachers will go with us for support. I was fortunate to win almost all of the competition I joined except for one event that a senior from our school won the "Alay Lakad" (student's parade) which was sponsored by the town Mayor. Although I placed 2nd, the fact that we're from same school gives me a pride; of making me feel that the school is in fact not only about teaching and celebrating academics but also nurturing and appreciating arts. During the early 90's on my 2nd year in high school, I remember skipping math just so I can spend more time in the computer room to learn graphic programming with GWBASIC, it was my very first introduction to the media and I really fell in love with it. My fascination grew bigger when on college I saw a movie using purely computer... Toy Story. It was from my early introduction to crude and primitive computer graphics in the school that made me pursue computer aided designing. I had a bag full of memories from that school... it was sad leaving my the town and so is the school where I spent 10 years of my impressionable years. 2 year ago I had the time off from work and went back to Philippines. After almost 10 years I visited Baliuag for a few hours, time do really take its toll. The place really transformed. I barely recognize the street I walked to and from school when I was young. It's now paved with a lot of billboards, shops grazed along the street, it became busier, a bustling town with Church as the center and our Catholic school just behind it. After highs school though I never really know what I wanted to take up in College, but few of the teachers and classmates, knowing that I can draw encourages me to follow what I wanted and so I did. I took up fine arts and did what I can do best, to be creative and think out of the box. To Saint Mary's I salute you for the forbearing years of teaching us about life.
